Biography: Dr. Maryna Skliut is the Medical Director of the Stroke Program at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. She completed her Internal Medicine internship at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn and her Neurology residency training at University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. She completed a fellowship in Stroke at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Skliut then joined Mount Sinai Beth Israel (formerly Beth Israel Medical Center) as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease. She became an expert in the treatment and prevention of stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, cerebral vasculitis, cerebral vasospasm, and cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. She served as Neurology Residency Site Director at Mount Sinai from 2018 until 2023 and received three residency teaching awards.

Biography: Neal S. Parikh, M.D., M.S., RPNI, is a Neurologist at Weill Cornell Medicine, where he serves as the Director of Outpatient Stroke and Vascular Neurology Services.After receiving a B.A. from Yale College, he received his M.D. from Weill Cornell Medical College. He completed residency in Adult Neurology and served as Chief Resident at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine. This was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in neuro-epidemiology and vascular neurology at The Neurological Institute at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, during which he received an M.S. in epidemiology from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. He is board certified in Adult Neurology and Vascular Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also certified as a Registered Physician in Neurovascular Interpretation (RPNI) by the American Society of Neuroimaging.Dr. Parikh's clinical expertise is in vascular neurology. He provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to patients with stroke, transient ischemic attack, and other vascular neurology conditions. Common conditions treated in his outpatient practice are stroke, transient ischemic attack, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, dissection, venous sinus thrombosis, abnormal vascular findings on brain imaging, and vascular cognitive impairment/dementia. He takes a keen interest in identifying and addressing uncommon causes of stroke in young adults. In the hospital setting, he additionally treats patients with other neurological emergencies and conditions that require hospital admission or that occur in patients hospitalized with other illnesses. His research focuses on 1) the complex interplay between medical conditions and brain health, and 2) stroke epidemiology and prevention. He has published numerous studies demonstrating a link between liver conditions and stroke and cognitive impairment. Another major focus is optimizing smoking cessation in the stroke secondary prevention setting and for patients with neurological disorders.His work has been published in leading journals such as JAMA Neurology, Neurology, Stroke, European Journal of Neurology, Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, Alzheimer’s & Dementia. His research is currently supported by the NIH/NIA and Florence Gould Foundation. Other recent support include the New York State Department of Health Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program and the Leon Levy Foundation in Neuroscience. He serves on the editorial board of Stroke and the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. Last, a regular participant in the annual Neurology on the Hill legislative advocacy event, and a former participant and advisor in the AAN Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum, he is deeply committed to improving population health through media engagement and advocacy.

Biography: Rivka Sachdev, MD graduated from Mount Sinai Medical School in New York City. She completed her internal medicine internship at SUNY Downstate and her neurology residency training at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. She then completed a fellowship in Movement Disorders at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. She remained at Mount Sinai Beth Israel as an attending in Movement Disorders and General Neurology for 9 years, during which time she developed expertise in botulinum toxin chemodenervation therapy for various neurological disorders. Conditions she treats using botulinum toxin include cervical and limb dystonia, blepharospasm and oromandibular dystonia, hemifacial spasm and facial synkinesis, tremor disorders, hypersecretory disorders (including sialorrhea and hyperhidrosis), motor tic disorders, spasticity, and chronic migraine. She joined the neurology faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine in July of 2019 and sees patients at the Lower Manhattan Campus.

Biography: Yevgeny Azrieli, MD is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Weill Cornell Medical College and an Assistant Attending Neurologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell. He is experienced in providing consultation to patients with a variety of general neurological conditions. Dr. Azrieli received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at New York Hospital and a residency in Neurology at Mount Sinai Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident. Care Philosophy: Dr. Kaunzner has an interest in autoimmune disorders of the nervous system and specializes in evaluation and management of patients with Multiple Sclerosis and other neuroinflammatory disorders. She is also actively involved in conducting translational research at the imaging center of the Judith Jaffe MS Center of Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Kaunzner is board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology.

Biography: Dr. Mulhern received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University. She then went on to study animal behavior and ecology at the University of California at Berkeley where she completed a Masters degree. She returned to the east coast to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine where she received her MD degree. She completed her Internal Medicine residency training at the University of North Carolina Hospitals, Chapel Hill, in 1998, and has been working as a general internist in Manhattan since completion of her training.

Care Philosophy: My approach to patient care is to listen to the patient intently and to commit my full attention to the patient's concerns. Very often the diagnosis becomes clear just from patient input and information. My main areas of interests include hepatitis and biliary problems. Inflammatory bowl disease is growing concern in Brooklyn, and HIV afflictions in our community and its impact on the bowel is a challenge to our speciality.

Care Philosophy: Before joining the staff of Weill Cornell Medical Associates, Dr. Smerd worked as a primary care doctor at the Manhattan Veterans Affairs Hospital and at Odyssey House, a therapeutic drug community in Spanish Harlem. She was named chief resident after completing her medical residency at New York University. Dr. Smerd studied medicine at the Sackler School of Medicine/NY State program in Tel Aviv, Israel. She has also lived in Kathmandu and traveled the countryside of Nepal researching Vitamin A deficiency. She earned her bachelor's degree from Vassar College, where she graduated with a major in Women's studies focusing on Anthropology. Though originally from Pittsburgh, Dr. Smerd now lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two children.
